Edith Piaf Recommendations

Born into near homelessness, Edith Piaf sang her way from the streets of Paris to the vaudeville stage in the 1930s. Her powerful, naturally emotive voice rang out with bold melancholy in songs of tragic romance, which helped catapult her to fame in the early 1940s. Her commanding style in contrast to her tiny frame--which earned her the nickname the Little Sparrow--charmed French listeners and made her a national symbol. She died in 1963.
