Estonian composer Part (b. 1935) began his career
with the forbidding serialist technique once in fashion with so
many of his colleagues. He subsequently developed a spiritually
questing minimalist style that possesses enormous appeal. He frequently
draws on Eastern Orthodox as well as Renaissance musical traditions
to create works of profoundly resonant and moving simplicity.
Here
are his essential recordings.
