Francois Fenelon Books

Christian Authors Here

Roman Catholic theologian, born in Fénelon, France. Ordained in 1675, in 1689 Louis XIV made him tutor to his grandson, and in this position he wrote several works, notably Les Aventures de Télémaque (1699, The Adventures of Telemachus), which received the king's censure for its political undertones. He became Archbishop of Cambrai in 1695. In 1697 he wrote Explanation of the Sayings of the Saints on the Interior Life (trans title). The book was condemned by the pope, a decision which Fénelon accepted, and he retired to Cambrai.
