Astaire was also an underrated singer whose sense of rhythm and phrasing inspired some of the greatest American songwriters--including Berlin, the Gershwins, Porter, and Kern--to compose now-classic standards especially for him. He is the epitome of class and elegance, and every man who dons a tuxedo or a pair of dancing shoes imagines he is Fred Astaire.
