Billy Graham's Complete Bookshelf
With Reviews and Reader Comments Here

Billy Graham is one of the most renowned religious and political leaders in the world. He has preached to more than 210 million people in 185 countries and territories, advised U.S. presidents and world leaders, and written 24 bestsellers. However, his beginning was not so prestigious.

After the Civil War, William Crook Graham, Billy's grandfather, settled an area outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. In his autobiography, Just As I Am, Billy describes him as "a hard-drinking, hard-cursing [Civil War] veteran," whose religion was "to be an honest man." Grandmother Graham, a "God-fearing Scotswoman," had six children, one of which was Graham's father, William Franklin. William Franklin married Morrow Coffey and started a dairy farm where Billy Jr. and his two sisters and brother were raised.

At the age of 16, Graham attended a revival meeting led by Mordecai Ham, a traveling evangelist, and decided to dedicate his life to Evangelism. Graham studied at the Florida Bible Institute and was ordained in 1940 by a Southern Baptist church. He then studied at Wheaton College in Illinois and graduated in 1943 with a B.A. in anthropology. The same year, he married Ruth McCue Bell, a fellow student and daughter of a missionary doctor.

After graduation, Graham joined Youth for Christ, an organization that ministered to servicemen during World War II. He preached throughout the United States and Europe, becoming well known as a charismatic speaker. In the 1950s, his crusades drew hundreds of thousands and were often extended for weeks. He has also personally ministered to many through his books, by offering encouragement and healing words. Hope for the Troubled Heart draws on Graham's lifetime of ministry and helps readers get through difficult times. Unto the Hills and Breakfast with Billy Graham walk the reader through daily devotions and comforting thoughts.

Throughout his life, Graham has befriended many world leaders and almost every president after Truman. He was especially close with Ronald Reagan and wrote about their friendship in Just As I Am: "[Reagan] often asked me questions about the biblical view of important issues." At 79, Graham still enjoys swimming and long walks. "I admit I don't like the burdens of old age ... but it can be a special time of life, and God has lessons to teach us through it." He dedicates an entire book to this topic in Facing Death and Life After, a 250,000-copy bestseller. He lives with his wife, Ruth, in the mountains of North Carolina and has five children, nineteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
