Essential Michael Keaton Films

Amazon.com
An actor whose manner suggests internal demons and a mercurial nature, Michael Keaton has often been more interesting than some of his movies. After a spell with Second City, Keaton worked in series television and made a memorable film debut as the yammering ditz in Ron Howard's 1982 Night Shift. Middling light comedies followed, but Keaton's true range became clear in his 1988 performances as the anarchic ghoul in Beetlejuice and a reformed drug addict in Clean and Sober. From there, Keaton has favored roles suggesting psychological complexity: as Batman, a pathological tenant in Pacific Heights, a dying businessman in My Life (Keaton's best performance), and the Hannibal Lecter-like villain in Desperate Measures.
